PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team fell to the Wofford Terriers 67-42 on Tuesday night (Nov. 26) in their first home game of the season.
"They are a really good team and they do a great job of moving the basketball," head coach Jason Crafton said. "We had some miscues on some switches and when we did, they took advantage of it."
The Hawks (0-7) saw Wofford jump out to an 18-9 lead in the first 10 minutes. They responded with a 3-pointer from freshman Da'Shawn Phillip (Baltimore, Md.) and a layup from junior Canaan Bartley (Miami, Fla.) to trim the lead to four. The Terriers came back to extend their lead to 16 five minutes later and carry a 36-23 into the locker room.
After the break, Eastern Shore went into an offensive lull as they had just 19 points over the final 20 minutes. Redshirt sophomore Walter Prevost (Houston, Texas) scored the team's first points of the half at the 12:54 mark. The Shore would go on to make just seven field goals on 28 percent shooting in the second half.
"Offensively, when we ran our stuff I loved the way we look," Crafton said. "Unfortunately, we chose to go one-on-one too much and that's when they capitalized off our turnovers in transition."
Prevost led the team in scoring with 10 points on 4-4 shooting. Senior Gabriel Gyamfi (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and junior Ty Gibson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tied for the team-high in rebounds with six. Wofford was led by Storm Murphy's 19 points.
Maryland Eastern Shore will now travel to the University of Delaware for a game on Friday (Nov. 29).
