PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team heads to Virginia to face Liberty on Sunday (Nov. 10) at 2 p.m. and Longwood on Tuesday (Nov. 12) at 7 p.m. in their next two contests of the season.
The Hawks (0-1) opened the season at Penn State last Tuesday (Nov. 5). The Shore dropped the contest 84-46 against their Big Ten opposition. Senior AJ Cheeseman (Snellville, Ga.) led the squad in points with nine against the Nittany Lions.
Sunday's opponent, Liberty, is coming off a season opening win against Radford. The Flames were picked to finish first in the preseason Atlantic Sun polls following a 29-7 season in 2018-19. Last season was highlighted by their first NCAA Tournament victory in school history over No. 5 seed Mississippi State.
Their squad returns four their top five scorers from a year ago including redshirt senior Caleb Homesley who was named the Atlantic Sun preseason player of the year. The Hawks and the Flames last faced each other two seasons ago on Dec. 8, 2017. Liberty prevailed 71-49 in that contest.
As for Tuesday's opponent Longwood, Eastern Shore played the Lancers a year ago on Nov. 13. The Shore faced a 12-point deficit in the final minute, but would close the gap and get a shot at the buzzer to tie the game. The shot went awry and Longwood escaped with a 66-63 victory at the Hytche Center.
The Lancers have split their first two games of the season by defeating Marymount and falling to George Mason. Deshaun Wade and Christian Wilson share the scoring lead for the squad so far.
Both games can be heard locally on Fox Sports 960 AM WTGM and online at EasternShoreHawks.com. Pregame coverage begins with Will DeBoer on The Shore Sports Network 15 minutes prior to game time. The game with Liberty can also be seen on ESPN+.
After the road trip, the Hawks will return home before heading to Kentucky to face Morehead State on Nov. 16.
