Eastern Shore Looks For Midweek Win versus Charlotte

Hawks Play Second Game in Three Days

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball will face the University of North Carolina Charlotte 49ers on Thursday (Dec. 19) looking for their second win in three games.

The Hawks (1-11) fell to the East Carolina University Pirates 71-57 on Tuesday (Dec. 17). Senior AJ Cheeseman (Snellville, Georgia) had his highest scoring output of the season with 15 points against the Pirates.

Eastern Shore's game with ECU was the tale of two halves. They scored just 16 points in the first half and shot 25% from the field. The Shore would come out and shoot 44.1% after halftime and outscore East Carolina 41-36 in the final 20 minutes.

The team also had senior Jacob McIntosh (Finksburg, Maryland) return to the lineup on Tuesday night. He had missed over a month of action for The Shore. Unfortunately, the Hawks will be without freshman Kevon Voyles (Berlin, Maryland) after he suffered an injury in the second half of the team's game with ECU.

Thursday's opponent, Charlotte, are in year two of head coach Ron Sanchez's reclamation project in the Queen City. He took over a team that won six games two years ago and won eight games last season with him at the helm. The 49ers sit at 5-4 so far this season including a win over ACC opponent Wake Forest.

Their offense is led by Oklahoma transfer Jordan Shepherd who leads the squad in points and assists. The redshirt junior played in 59 games for the Sooners in his first two seasons before transferring closer to his Asheville, North Carolina home.

The game can be heard locally on Fox Sports 960 AM WTGM and online at EasternShoreHawks.com. Pregame coverage begins with Will DeBoer on The Shore Sports Network 15 minutes prior to game time.

After Thursday's matchup, Maryland Eastern Shore will face Old Dominion on Sunday (Dec. 22) at 2 p.m. They will conclude their nonconference schedule after Christmas on Dec. 29 against Virginia Tech.
