CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore fell to the University of North Carolina Charlotte 49ers 66-44 on Thursday evening (Dec. 19).
"I don't think we played up to our standards effort wise due to some fatigue," head coach Jason Crafton said. "However, with that being said I do think our defensive effort in the first half was good enough for us to be in the game but we didn't make open shots."
The Hawks (1-12) made just five field goals in the opening half of play while shooting 17.9% from the field. Eastern Shore also committed 10 turnovers in the first half that led to them not being able to get much offensive rhythm.
In the second half, the lid stayed on the basket as The Shore continued to fall short of the majority of their shots. The team ended up shooting 28% from the field for the game. The squad did end the game on an 11-3 run to end the night with some positive energy.
Maryland Eastern Shore had 10 different players get into the scoring column. Redshirt junior Marlon Adams (Brooklyn, New York) scored eight points to lead the team in scoring. Freshman Da'Shawn Phillip (Baltimore, Maryland) had seven rebounds to lead the Hawks on the glass. Charlotte was led by Jordan Shepherd's 20 points.
Eastern Shore will now play Old Dominion on Sunday (Dec. 22) at 2 p.m. in their final game before Christmas.
