PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will face in-state rival Coppin State University on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 16) inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center as the Hawks celebrate Homecoming 2019. Tip will be at 4 p.m.
The Hawks (4-23, 2-10 MEAC) are coming off a 68-61 loss to North Carolina A&T on Feb. 11. Eastern Shore held a 31-23 lead at halftime, but the Aggies had a strong second half to get the victory.
Grad student Ryan Andino (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) finished with the team lead for points with 11. Gabriel Gyamfi (Brampton, ON, Canada) and Dontae Caldwell (Santa Ana, CA) each had nine for the Hawks.
Coppin State (5-21, 5-6 MEAC) is in eighth place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. They are coming off a last second 85-84 loss to South Carolina State.
The Eagles are led on the sideline by the 2002 NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player Juan Dixon. The University Of Maryland alum is in his second season with the Eagles after spending seven years in the NBA and a stint playing internationally.
Redshirt sophomore guard Dejuan Clayton leads Coppin State in scoring with 14.5 points per game. He scored a career high 30 points in their last contest against South Carolina State.

Saturday's game will be the only game for the Hawks over the weekend as they will have their first idle day of the MEAC season on Monday (Feb. 18). Maryland Eastern Shore will not play again until Feb. 23 when they face their Route 13 neighbors Delaware State. The season will conclude in March with two home games against Morgan State and Delaware State.
