The Shore readies for first midweek contest this season

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — For the first time this season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team prepares for a midweek contest. Their challengers will be the George Washington Colonials in a Wednesday (March 13) showdown in Arlington, Virginia.

First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Bancroft Park and admission to the contest is free. Fans can also tune in on ESPN+ (http://www.espn.com/watch/_/id/0ec71e22-7381-46a7-8b0e-a96dc34da29f/marylandeastern-shore-vs-george-washington), but a subscription is required. Live stats (https://gwsports.com/sidearmstats/baseball/summary) will also be supplied.

The Hawks enter the matchup with a 3-13 record, getting their third win against Lehigh at the 2019 Aviary Invite this past weekend. George Washington stands at 7-6 with a game scheduled for Tuesday (March 12) versus Towson. The Colonials' wins include a sweep of Saint Peter's and a pair of victories over Manhattan and UMass Lowell.

This is the 18th meeting since the two teams regularly faced each other beginning in 2007. George Washington has won 14 of the past 17, including an 8-3 win last season. The Shore's last win over the Colonials also came in a 8-3 decision back in 2015.

Wednesday's contest is the first of 11 midweek dates for the Hawks. There will be at least one game played every week until the regular season finale against Georgetown in May.
