NORFOLK, Virginia — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will play their first game of the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament on Tuesday evening (March 12) against the South Carolina State University Bulldogs inside Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA. Tip will be at 6 p.m.
The Hawks (7-24, 5-11 MEAC) have won their last three games. Their most recent victory was a 70-64 win over Delaware State University on March 7. Redshirt junior Isaac Taylor (Wachapreague, VA) notched a double-double against the Hornets with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor has averaged 15 points per game for Maryland Eastern Shore over their last three contests.
Tuesday's matchup will be the opening game of the tournament for both teams and the second time this season the Hawks and Bulldogs have played. The Shore pulled out a nail-biter on Feb. 2 as they won 63-61. Junior Bryan Urrutia (Chihuahua, Mexico) had his career high 22 points that night including the game winner with seven seconds left.
The Bulldogs (7-25, 5-11 MEAC) are led by junior Damani Applewhite, who is a second team All-MEAC selection this season. He averages 16.9 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, both of which are in the top five of the conference.
The contest can be heard locally on Fox Sports 960 AM WTGM and online at EasternShoreHawks.com. Pregame coverage begins with Will DeBoer approximately 15 minutes before the game tips off.
The winner of the game will play the No. 1 seed Norfolk State University Spartans on Wednesday (March 13) night at 6 p.m. inside Scope Arena.
