The Shore Drops Two at Mount St. Mary’s

Hawks Begin Their Spring Break Road Trip Friday

EMMITTSBURG, Maryland The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday (March 13) to Mount St. Mary's.

The Hawks dropped game one 11-0 in five innings. Eastern Shore had only two hits in the contest. They came from senior Breana Florez (Houston, TX) in the second inning and freshman Rachel Gingrich (Landisburg, PA) in the fifth inning. Junior Allison Gingrich (Landisburg, PA) also reached base in the fifth inning after drawing a walk.

The Mount won game two by a score of 5-0. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth where Mount St. Mary's scored four runs and added another run in the fifth.

Maryland Eastern Shore got three hits in the contest from Rachel Gingrich, junior Kendal Turner (Edgewood, MD) and senior Daeshia Jones (Teaneck, NJ). Senior Sara Jo Whaley (Laurel, DE) drew two walks in the game.

Eastern Shore will now go on a week-long road trip through North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Their first games will be on Friday (March 15) at North Carolina Central beginning at 3 p.m.
