Route 13 Rivals meet at Perdue this weekend

Hawks to host Hornets for three game series

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — A yearly tradition on Delmarva takes place again this weekend at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the Hornets of Delaware State University will meet for a three game baseball series.

Games are at 3 p.m. Friday (March 29), 2 p.m. Saturday (March 30) and 1 p.m. Sunday (March 31).

Tickets cost $6 for each days and be purchased online or at the door. Live stats and live video are available and Drew Williams will broadcast live on SFMSports.net

This is the first matchup between the two teams since the dramatic conclusion to the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) season. The Shore traveled up to Dover needing to win all three games to clinch a berth in the conference tournament. They did just that - winning by scores of 4-0, 8-3 and 5-1 - to make the trip to Daytona Beach.

Similiar ramifications are on tap for this weekend, albeit earlier in the season. Maryland Eastern Shore took two of three against Norfolk State to stand third in the MEAC standings. Delaware State got their first win over Coppin State last weekend but are holding down last place with a 1-5 mark.

Although the Hornets hold a decisive lead in the series, the last five years have felt more like a rivalry. Over 39 games played, the sides have played even with Delaware State holding a narrow 20-19 edge.

This is Delaware State's only trip down Route 13 to play the Hawks this season. Both teams will meet again April 18-20 in Dover.
