SALISBURY, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team were swept by Delaware State by a 10-5 final on Sunday (March 31) at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shore sees their record drop to 6-24 (2-7 MEAC).
Keith Carpenter (Walled Lake, Michigan) kept the Hawks in the game with a solid start. Across five innings he allowed two earned runs and struck out two. But the took the loss after conceding a fourth inning home run to Adrian Hill.
At the plate, Dillon Oxyer (Pasadena, Maryland) and D.J. Doherty (Harbeson, Delaware) made multi-hit games. Blake Coleman (Woodbridge, Virginia) delivered a two out, two run single that tied the game at two in the second. Brantley Cutler (Washington, North Carolina) added an RBI double in the eighth inning.
Hill's home run in the fourth gave the Hornets the lead for good. The visitors added five runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to end any hope of a Hawks' comeback.
Maryland Eastern Shore will travel to Mount St. Mary's for a doubleheader Wednesday (April 3).
