PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team will face the UMBC Retrievers on Tuesday afternoon (April 16) in a nonconference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
The Hawks (6-23) are coming off a split in two games last week (April 10) versus North Carolina Central. Junior LeAnn Gingrich (Landisburg, PA) got her third win of the season inside the circle in game one against NCCU. Sophomore Stephanie Huff (Montoursville, PA) had two hits and two RBIs against the Eagles to lead the Hawks at the plate.
UMBC (21-15) is coming off of two wins on Saturday (April 13) against MEAC member Delaware State. The Retrievers are led by freshman Courtney Coppersmith. She has 15-7 record as a pitcher with a 1.30 ERA and hits .345 at the plate.
Maryland Eastern Shore will play a total of seven games this week. After their UMBC doubleheader, they will face Saint Peter's for a doubleheader on Thursday (April 18) beginning at 2 p.m.
The week will conclude with a three game series with Morgan State on April 19-20. The series will be important for both teams in the standings for the MEAC Tournament as seeds will be determined in the final two weeks of the regular season.
