Box Score 2 HANOVER, Maryland — Bats were alive for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, but it was unable to keep up during a doubleheader against Coppin State at Joe Cannon Stadium on Saturday (April 27). The Hawks were swept 11-7 and 9-7 in the effort.
The Eastern Shore offense put up three multiple run innings to stay alive in the first battle with the Eagles, led by
Matt Smith's (Salisbury, Maryland) two double, two RBI day. Lead-off hitter
Brian Cordell (Pasadena, Maryland) also chipped in two RBI's, scoring
Nick Roats (Charlotte, North Carolina) both times.
Hawks starter
Dwayne Marshall (Pitscataway, New Jersey) started the game off strong by fanning five in the first two innings on his way to an eight strike out day before being relieved in the seventh by junior
Johnny Franco (Hackettstown, New Jersey).
Game 2 was highlighted by clutch hitting and big runs after Coppin took an early lead. The Shore grabbed a 4-3 advantage on a single by
Carson Davis (Oakboro, North Carolina) for the first lead of the day in the fifth. The Eagles would come back in the bottom of the inning, keeping the game out of reach despite Davis' second home run of the year in the ninth.

Chris Sanders (Pocomoke, Maryland) having four of his own over 2.1 innings.
