DOVER, Delaware — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team was defeated by the Delaware State University Hornets on Sunday afternoon (April 28) in their season finale.
The Hawks struggled on offense for the third straight game with the Hornets. Eastern Shore finished the game with one run and four hits, while the Hornets had 15 hits and runs.
Senior Daeshia Jones (Teaneck, NJ) had an RBI groundout in the fourth inning to bring classmate Kiana Peterson (Willingboro, NJ) across home plate to produce the lone run for Maryland Eastern Shore. Each senior had a hit in their final game of their college career. Juniors Allison Gingrich (Landisburg, PA) and Kendal Turner (Edgewood, MD) had the other hits for the squad.
The Shore finished the season with an 8-31, 3-11 MEAC record this season in head coach Karla Powell's first season at the helm. The eight wins doubled the four from a season ago.
"We had a lot of ups and down this year," Powell said. "But I think that a foundation is being set here at Maryland Eastern Shore and better days are ahead of us."
