PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team will face in-state conference opponent Coppin State University this weekend (April 6-7) in a three game series.
The Hawks (4-20, 1-5 MEAC) are coming off a 7-3 defeat to Norfolk State on March 31. Maryland Eastern Shore was down 5-0 in the game and closed the lead to 5-3 before NSU was able to finish the game by scoring the final two runs. Sophomore Nasya Goodman (Willingboro, NJ) had a career high three hits in the contest.
CSU (3-18, 1-2 MEAC) is coming off a 7-1 lost to Drexel on April 2. Freshman Melanie Aguilera leads the Eagles in batting average at .257. The Eagles also boast a trio of second team All-MEAC performers from last season in Patricia Soria, Nia Bowe and Cayla Brown.
The Shore, Coppin State and Morgan State are all tied in the win column in conference play. One of the three teams are in line to capture the No. 4 seed in the northern division of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament in May. A series win for either team this weekend is important for potential playoff positioning as the season enters its final month.
Maryland Eastern Shore will face North Carolina Central on Wednesday (April 10) in a midweek doubleheader following this weekend's series.
