Hawks drop doubleheader at Georgetown

Season concludes in nation’s capital

WASHINGTON, D.C. — With two losses to Georgetown University on Wednesday (May 8) the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team finished out the season in our nation's capital.

Game one was a solid offensive showing for the Shore despite falling behind 6-0 in the second inning, battling back to 6-5 in the fifth before eventually falling 13-6 in a seven inning game. Brian Cordell (Pasadena, Maryland) and D.J. Doherty (Harbeson, Delaware) highlighted the offense with two hits and a run a piece, Doherty's with a solo home run.

Cameron Bratton (Cumberland, Maryland) and Chris Sanders (Pocomoke, Maryland) tallied six strike outs over six innings.

The Hawks in turn only struck out twice in the game showing patience at the plate. Sophomore Brian Cordell (Pasadena, Maryland) and junior D.J. Doherty (Harbeson, Delaware) had two hits apiece in Game 1, with one of Cordell's being a two-bagger.

After 18 combined runs in the first game, it was a close fight in game two where the Shore fell 4-2 when the Hoyas rallied in the sixth.

Georgetown struck first with a two run second before the Hawks tied the game up in the fifth on a two run single by Avery Tunnell (Dover, Delaware). The Shore was done in though after not being able to tie the game in the final frame following a two run single by the Hoyas in the sixth. Tunnel led The Shore with a pair of hits in the second game.

Starter Caleb Walston (Princess Anne, Maryland) had three strike outs over four innings while allowing two runs.

The Hawks finish the season with a 10-42 (4-20 MEAC) record, highlighted by wins over Lehigh University and Fordham University.

The team will lose Joey Nicasto (Newmarket, Maryland) and Carson Davis (Oakboro, North Carolina) to graduation.
