PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team will be hosting the 2019 Henson's Hawk Invitational this weekend (Sept. 13-14) inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.
The Hawks (2-5) will play in a four-team round robin tournament over the course of two days. Hampton, Rider and Robert Morris will be the other schools participating. This weekend will be the first home matches of the season for Eastern Shore.
Maryland Eastern Shore currently leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in aces and aces per set with 66 and 2.36 respectively. The Hawks are also third in the conference in blocks as a team at 1.86 per set.
Senior Ivana Blazevic (Zagreb, Croatia) is on the cusp of becoming the school's all-time leader in assists. She is 97 assists away from the record, so strong outings this weekend could give the senior the record in front of the home crowd.
The tournament will begin on Friday afternoon (Sept. 13) when Hampton and Robert Morris face off at 4 p.m. The Shore and Rider will follow them with a match at 7 p.m. to conclude day one. Day two will begin with the Hawks and Hampton playing at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 14). That night Eastern Shore and Robert Morris will play the final match of the tournament at 7 p.m.
