PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team begins a five-day road trip in Jersey City, New Jersey with a match against Saint Peter's University on Wednesday (Sept. 18) evening at 7 p.m.
The Hawks (3-7) are coming off of the Henson's Hawk Invitational last weekend (Sept. 13-14) where they defeated Rider and dropped matches to Hampton and Robert Morris. Sophomore middle blocker Mauri Carver (Elizabeth City, North Carolina) and senior setter Ivana Blazevic (Zagreb, Croatia) were named to the all-tournament team. Carver was also named the MEAC Player of the Week for her weekend performance.
Sophomore Stella Johnson (Newport News, Virginia) also had a strong tournament as she finished with 60 digs. Junior Ilina Spasova (Sofia, Bulgaria) led the squad in kills with 30.
Wednesday's matchup with the Peacocks is the second time these two teams face each other this season. The Shore swept SPU on Aug. 30 in St. Francis Brooklyn's tournament. That match is the only sweep the Hawks have this season as they won their other two matches in four sets.
Following their matchup with Saint Peter's, Maryland Eastern Shore will head to West Hartford, Connecticut to play in the Hartford Invitational for four matches on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 20-21).
