PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will play their first conference game on the road Saturday evening (Jan. 18) at 6:30 p.m. against the Norfolk State University Spartans.

The Shore (2-16, 1-2 MEAC) dropped their last contest 69-64 in overtime against North Carolina Central on Jan. 13. Senior AJ Cheeseman (Snellville, Georgia) logged a double-double in that contest with 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hawks, while redshirt senior Ahmad Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 11 points.

Maryland Eastern Shore will be without the services of junior guard Ty Gibson (Brooklyn, New York) for a few weeks as he suffered an injury versus N.C. Central. His absence should lead to more minutes for local product Kevon Voyles (Berlin, Maryland) as he has returned from his own injury problems.

Norfolk State is currently 3-0 in MEAC play and 7-11 overall. They were the conference regular season champs a season ago and earned a berth into the NIT. NSU would capitalize on that opportunity as they defeated Alabama 80-79 before falling to Colorado in the second round of the tournament. The Spartans are led by all-conference player Steven Whitley as he is currently third in the MEAC in assists.

Following Saturday's game, Eastern Shore will travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina to face South Carolina State on Monday (Jan. 20).
