Eastern Shore Travels South To Play S.C. State

Hawks Get One Week off After Monday’s Game

ORANGEBURG, South Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will play their second game in three days on Monday evening (Jan. 20) as they face the South Carolina State University Bulldogs. Tip will be at approximately 7:30 p.m. as it will follow the women's game between the two schools.

The Hawks (2-17, 1-3 MEAC) have dropped their last three games after winning their conference opener versus Howard on Jan. 4. In their last contest, Norfolk State won 62-52 on Jan. 18.

Forward AJ Cheeseman (Snellville, Georgia) scored 15 points against the Spartans. The senior has scored in double figures in three of the four conference games that the Hawks have played.

South Carolina State (8-8, 3-1 MEAC) is coming off an 81-65 win on Jan. 18 against Florida A&M. The Bulldogs are currently tied for second in the MEAC with North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T.

Monday's game will put two of the conference's top interior players head-to-head. Cheeseman's 14.3 points per game is in the top 15 in scoring during the conference season and he will be facing off with Damani Applewhite, who is averaging 19.8 points and 9.3 rebounds in MEAC play.

The contest can be heard via the Hawks' Facebook page with Will DeBoer on the call. The Shore can be found at Eastern Shore Hawks. Coverage will begin following the conclusion of the women's game between the Hawks and Bulldogs.

The Shore will have a week off after their tilt with S.C. State as they will not play again until Jan. 27 against Morgan State inside the Hytche Center.
