Eastern Shore Plays MEAC Game Number 10 on Saturday

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will be host a game inside the Hytche Center for the first time in 19 days on Saturday (Feb. 15) against the Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats.

The Hawks (3-21, 2-7 MEAC) are coming off a heartbreaking 68-67 overtime loss to the Coppin State University Eagles on Monday (Feb. 10). Freshman Da'Shawn Phillip (Baltimore, Maryland) hit a shot behind the arc with 10 seconds left to give Eastern Shore a one point lead, but CSU would come back and get a bucket at the buzzer.

The Shore has had trouble at times during the season scoring, but their defense is one of the tops in the conference. Maryland Eastern Shore is ranked third in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in steals and blocks per team at 7.5 and 3.4 respectively. Their team defense will be important in their upcoming games against the conference's two teams from Florida.

Saturday's opponent, Bethune-Cookman (12-12, 6-4 MEAC), is one of the most talented teams in the MEAC. The Wildcats are led by the conference's reigning defensive player of the year Cletrell Pope. Pope is one of the nation's top rebounders as he is in the top 10 in the NCAA in rebounds per game at 11.4.

Maryland Eastern Shore will also be hosting Take A Kid To The Game Day on Saturday as well. All kids 12 years old and younger will get free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket. The festivities will begin before the start of the women's game between the Hawks and Wildcats at 1:30 p.m.

The game can be seen on Facebook Live at Eastern Shore Hawks with Will DeBoer and former Hawk coach Frankie Allen on the call. Coverage will begin after the conclusion of the women's game.

Eastern Shore will be back in action on Monday (Feb. 17) against Florida A&M at 7:30 p.m.
