Eastern Shore Goes For Their Third Straight in Durham

Hawks Begin the Stretch Run in the Tar Heel State

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team is back on the road after two straight wins at home as they face the North Carolina Central University Eagles on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 4 p.m.

The Hawks (5-21, 4-7 MEAC) are coming off an 81-71 win versus the Florida A&M Rattlers on Monday (Feb. 17). Four players finished in double figures in that game as freshman Da'Shawn Phillip (Baltimore, Maryland) led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Phillip was named the MEAC rookie of the week on Tuesday for his efforts last week.

Saturday will be the second time the Hawks and Eagles face off this season. NCCU came out on top 69-64 in overtime on Jan. 13 inside the Hytche Center. Senior AJ Cheeseman (Snellville, Georgia) had 19 points and 10 rebounds in that game. That was his second double-double of the season.

Maryland Eastern Shore and North Carolina Central are two of the best defensive teams in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Hawks allow 70.9 points per game which is the fourth-best in the conference, while the Eagles allow 64.8 points per contest which is second-best in the MEAC.

NC Central (12-13, 8-3 MEAC) comes into Saturday's game following a 77-60 loss versus rival North Carolina A&T on Monday (Feb. 17). That defeat ended the Eagles' five game win streak.

The game can be heard on Facebook Live at Eastern Shore Hawks with Will DeBoer on the call. Coverage will begin after the conclusion of the women's game between the two schools.

After their game with North Carolina Central, Maryland Eastern Shore will be back in action at North Carolina A&T on Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
