Hawks win MEAC regular season title

Next up is Music City Classic

PENSACOLA, Florida — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore finished off a sweep of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Sunday (Feb. 23) with a team Baker victory against Coppin State and a best-of-seven wins against Monmouth University and Delaware State. The Hawks (75-26) finished the regular season with an unblemished 24-0 record in the MEAC and captured both the No. 2 meet and the regular season title.

"First, I can't say enough about the work ethic and time these girls have put in to get to this point," Hawks coach Kayla Bandy said. "We have several more weeks of work to do but it's good to see progress with each competition."

Eastern Shore is now on an 11-match win streak.

The Hawks took a 2-0 lead against Monmouth in bracket play before it was tied up at 2-2. Two more wins by Eastern Shore finished off the match.

Freshman Brooke Roberts (Port Orange, Florida) made the All-Tournament team and was named MVP of the weekend after a strong performance that included an Individual Championship with a five-game traditional average of 205.20.

"Brooke was incredible for us all weekend, her tournament MVP was very well deserved," Bandy said. "The rest of the team was just awesome, I can't say enough. This gives us increased focus on the work that we need to put in before our next event at the Music City Classic."

The MEAC Championship is March 20-22 at AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Virginia.

"To go undefeated in the regular season is just awesome," Bandy said. "When I sit back and think about how awesome it really is, it makes me feel really good about lots of sacrifices this team has made. The girls have spent weekends on campus rather than going home, long hours in the facility, assumed extra workouts, worked hard to build a cohesive team, and so much more. I am so excited for the rest of this journey with this group."

The Shore will next travel to Smyrna, Tennessee for the Music City Classic March 6-8.
