Hawks host Georgetown for single-game midweek battle

The Shore hits the road again this weekend

SALISBURY, Maryland — Fresh off picking up their first victory of the season, where the offense and pitching both shined against visiting University at Albany in a 10-3 decision, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore will host Georgetown (1-6) for a 1 p.m. matchup Wednesday (Feb. 26) at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

The Hawks (1-5) will start sophomore Keith Carpenter on the hill. It will be the first action of the season for the righty who started seven games in 14 appearances as a freshman last season.

The Hoyas will go with sophomore southpaw Jack Weeks who will also be making his first appearance of the young season. Weeks was 1-0 in seven relief appearances as a freshman with a 4.26 ERA.

Georgetown finished last season 22-4 and 7-11 in the Big East last season finishing in fifth place. Twenty six players returned from last season's squad along with nine newcomers.

The Hoyas return nearly 80 percent of its offense from a season ago, including 377 hits, 29 home runs and 177 RBIs.

Junior Eddie McCabe was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, but the infielder is off to a slow starting hitting .227 in 22 at bats so far. Senior outfield A.J. Lotsus leads Georgetown at the plate with a .667 average (11-of-30) including three home runs and eight RBIs.

The Hawks return to the road this coming weekend to face Mount St. Mary's in a doubleheader on Feb. 28 (Noon, 3 p.m.), followed by a single game at 10 am on Feb. 29.
