Hawks Conclude Gardner-Webb Tournament Tomorrow

BOILING SPRINGS, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team dropped fell in two games in day two of the Gardner-Webb Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 8). The Shore dropped their game with Canisius 8-0 and 5-2 to Youngstown State.

"We definitely got better today and I see us starting to put some of the things together that we have practiced," head coach Karla Powell said. "We are starting to look like a team and we are doing a good job of taking advantage of certain pitches at the plate."

The Hawks had a better pitching performance in day two of the tournament as junior Nasya Goodman (Willingboro, New Jersey) and senior LeAnn Gingrich (Landisburg, Pennsylvania) combined for just four walks after giving up 16 on day one.

Freshman Tyanna Roberts (Woodbridge, Virginia) went 3-3 with a RBI against Youngstown State. Sophomores Alona Robillard (Lake Wales, Florida) and Kaylyn Sterling (Half Moon Bay, California) scored the squad's runs in the game.

The Hawks (0-4) will conclude their play in the tournament tomorrow (Feb. 9) as they face the host Gardner-Webb at 12:30 p.m.
