Eastern Shore Faces Norfolk State in Midweek Game

Hawks Travel To George Washington This Weekend

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team will host a game with MEAC foe Norfolk State University on Thursday (March 12) at 4:30 p.m. The game will not go down as a conference game for either school.

The Hawks (3-17) are coming off a tough weekend in the Morgan State University Tournament. They fell in their games, but most importantly they loss the services of sophomores Anissa Derifield (Woodbridge, Virginia) and Kaylyn Sterling (Half Moon Bay, California) due to injury in Baltimore. Both will be out against the Spartans tomorrow.

Thursday will also be Eastern Shore's third home game of the season. They won their first two at Hawk Field this season against Saint Peter's on March 4.

Norfolk State (6-14) is led by the MEAC preseason player of the year Shelby DesChamps and junior Jazzmaine Hammonds. DesChamps is leading the Spartans in on-base percentage at .483, while Hammonds is batting .375, which leads the team and is fourth-best in the conference.

After Thursday's game, Maryland Eastern Shore will travel to Washington, D.C. to face George Washington for three game this weekend. They will play a doubleheader on Saturday (March 14) beginning at noon and a single game on Sunday (March 15) at noon.
