BERLIN, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's and women's golf teams each finished fourth in the school's home tournament, the Maryland Eastern Shore Collegiate Golf Challenge, earlier this week (October 26-27) at the Ocean City Golf Club.
On the men's side, the Hawks were split into two separate teams and had three players compete as individuals. Eastern Shore's A team finished in fourth with a combined score of 927 after three rounds of play, which was just one stroke behind North Carolina Central. The B team finished with a 964.
Freshman Logan Kiley was the top golfer for The Shore in the event and was named to the All-Tournament team. He finished fifth in individual scores with a 223 (+5) for the tournament. Kiley's 73 (+1) in round one was the squad's best individual round of the week.
His classmate Montaevious White competed as an individual in the event and had the best outing for the Hawks of those players. He had a 241 (+23) combined for the three rounds and outdueled his playing partner JR Smith of North Carolina A&T. Smith, who is now a freshman for the Aggies after completing his 16-year NBA career, finished with a 264 (+46).
On the women's side, Maryland Eastern Shore had a combined score of 746 after the tournament. Freshman Arria Gross had the best showing for the team as she had her best two rounds of the season. She had an 86 in round one and an 85 in round two for a combined 171 (+27). Senior Briahna Willis shot an 81 in round two for the best individual round for the women in the tournament.
The men's squad is finished with their fall season and will resume play in the 2022 calendar year. The women have one more fall tournament on November 6-9 at Alabama A&M.
