PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — This weekend will be the final time this season that the University of Maryland Eastern Shore volleyball team plays consecutive matches at home inside the William P. Hytche Center. On Friday (October 8), they will face South Carolina State at 6 p.m. and on Sunday (October 10), they will play North Carolina Central at 1 p.m.

The Hawks (6-8, 1-2) are in the midst of a two match losing streak. The two losses came after the team won four matches in a row.

The key for the Hawks all season has been the offensive balance of the team. Eastern Shore has five players with more than 75 kills as junior Derionah Abner leads the pack with 100.

Defensively, the squad is paced by senior captain Mauri Carver as she is second in the MEAC in blocks per set at 1.00. Her classmate Stella Johnson stands at eighth in the conference in digs per set at 3.27.

In Friday's match versus South Carolina State, Maryland Eastern Shore will be looking for their fifth straight win against the Bulldogs. The last time SCSU defeated the Hawks was in the 2010 MEAC Tournament semifinals.

NCCU is currently undefeated in MEAC play as they have won their first three conference matches. Before they come into the Hytche Center on Sunday, they will face the other undefeated team in the conference, Delaware State, on Friday. N.C. Central is one of the top offensive teams in the MEAC as they have two players, Arlanda Faulkner and Ammaarah Williams, in the top 10 in kills.
