PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — As the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team plays their final game of this month, the Hawks will face their toughest opponent of the season on Tuesday night (November 30) as they take on the University of Connecticut Huskies. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m.
"When we head up to UConn, we are going to just say 'hey we are playing another high-level opponent and that's no different than what we have done except for the name'", head coach Jason Crafton said. "But all we are going to do is keep finding a way to get better and that will be our goal in this game, so when we get to MEAC play we are ready to compete and win games."
The Hawks (2-4) dropped their last game 73-61 to Liberty on November 27. The team had some offensive struggles late in that game, but their effort remained intact which allowed them to stay within striking distance. Junior Dom London led the squad in scoring against Liberty as he scored in double figures for the third time this season finishing with 16 points.
Eastern Shore has been leaning on the long ball early in the season as the team averages eight made 3-pointers per game. The team is third in the MEAC in 3-point field goal percentage at 33.1%. London leads the team with 10 makes from behind the arc, while junior Kohen Thompson has made nine and leads the team in percentage at 37.5%.
Connecticut is ranked No. 17 in the latest AP poll that came out today (November 29). They moved up five spots from last week's ranking. The Huskies are 6-1 on the season with their lone defeat coming to Michigan State in the Bahamas on Thanksgiving.
UConn is led by graduate point guard R.J. Cole. He leads the team in assists and steals and is second in scoring. He transferred to UConn after two seasons at Howard from 2017-19. He played against Eastern Shore four times while with the Bison and HU came out victorious in each matchup.
Tuesday's game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. The game will also have live stats available. Links to both will be on the Hawks website easternshorehawks.com on the men's basketball schedule page.
Maryland Eastern Shore's next game will be on Saturday (December 4) at Lehigh.
