UMES hosts Patriot League foe Lehigh on Wednesday

Three-game road trip up next for Hawks

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team goes to battle with Lehigh University on Wednesday, November 30. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

UMES enters the contest following a 72-45 defeat to the fifth-ranked University of Virginia on Friday, November 25.

The History

The Hawks last met their mountain-based counterparts last season, on December 4, 2021. UMES made the trek to Stabler Arena and soared back to Princess Anne with the victory, 81-75.

The 2021 contest was the fifth-straight on the road for last year's squad. The Hawks erased a two-point deficit at the break to get out with the win.

Da'Shawn Phillip led the squad with a career-high 16 points. Dom London, Chace Davis and Kevon Voyles each finished with 14, while Nathaniel Pollard Jr. posted game-highs in rebounds (6), blocks (4) and steals (2).

Scouting the Mountain Hawks

The Lehigh men's basketball team enters at 4-2 on the young season, but as winners of four straight contests. Their two losses came at the hands of Syracuse and Virginia Tech to open the 2022-23 campaign.

"This is a really good team that's on a hot streak," head coach Jason Crafton said. "Last year's game means nothing as they have different personnel and play a new style."

Most recently, the Mountain Hawks topped Monmouth 80-76 on Sunday, November 27 to extend their streak to four games.

The Lehigh offense is led by senior guard Evan Taylor, who holds a team-high 14.7 points per contest while also hauling in 5.3 boards per game (second on the team). Taylor had a stellar showing on Sunday, posting a season-high 25 points in the four-point win over Monmouth.

After the trip to Virginia, the Hawks are looking forward to being back in the Hytche on Wednesday evening.

"We are ready to go to battle and happy to be back in front of our home crowd," Crafton said.

Wednesday night is also Student Organization Night at the Hytche. All student organizations are encouraged to come out and show their Hawk Pride as the Hawks take on Lehigh at 7 p.m.
