PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team will host their first game in 715 days on Friday (February 25) as part of the Eastern Shore Classic Tournament that the team will be hosting this weekend. The last time the Hawks played a home game was on March 12, 2020 against Norfolk State.
The Hawks will play against Saint Peter's University and Lafayette College a total of six times over the weekend. They will play doubleheaders against each team on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (February 25-27) beginning at noon.
Saint Peter's and Lafayette will face each other at 9 a.m. on Friday and Sunday. This weekend will be the first time both teams play this season.
Maryland Eastern Shore (0-5) will be looking for their first win of the season over the weekend. They came up empty two weeks ago during the Paladin Invitational in Greenville, South Carolina, but showed promise at the plate throughout the event. Five players are currently hitting over .300 led by sophomore Ameenah Ballenger who is at .400.
Inside the circle, graduate student Nasya Goodman leads the way as she has appeared in all five games with one start. The veteran responded by posting a 1.62 ERA with eight strikeouts and just four walks.
Following this weekend, Eastern Shore will travel to Huntington, West Virginia to play in the Marshall round Robin hosted by Marshall University March 4-6.
