PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — On Saturday (February 5), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will take on the Howard University Bison as they look to grab their third consecutive win. The game will tip off at approximately 4 p.m. after the conclusion of the women's game between the two schools.
Eastern Shore (7-9, 2-3 MEAC) won their last contest on January 31 against Morgan State 79-72. Senior Donchevell "Tuka" Nugent scored a game-high 23 points off the bench. Senior Nathaniel Pollard, Jr. had his second double-double of the season in that game as he finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Saturday's game will showcase a contrast of styles. The Hawks are second in the MEAC in scoring defense as they give up just 66.4 points per game. Howard is the conference's top scoring offense as they average 77.7 points per contest. Their duo of Kyle Foster and Steve Settle, III are the league's top scoring duo as they average 15.1 points and 14.6 points per game respectively.
Howard (8-10, 2-3 MEAC) is coming into the game following a loss at South Carolina State on January 31. That game made the Hawks and Bison tied for fifth place in the conference standings, so the winner of Saturday's contest will be important to tiebreakers and seeding as the conference tournament approaches next month.
Maryland Eastern Shore play their next game on Wednesday (February 9) as they travel to play their Route 13 rival Delaware State.
