PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will conclude their regular season on Thursday night (March 3) as they face the Delaware State University Hornets as the team celebrates senior night.
Eastern Shore (10-14, 5-8 MEAC) is looking to get a bitter taste out of their mouth as they dropped their last game to Morgan State. The team struggled from the outside against the Bears after having two of their best shooting games from long distance against NC Central and Coppin State.
Thursday's game with the Hornets will hold major seeding ramifications for the Hawks. Eastern Shore is currently seventh in MEAC standings with the conference tournament coming up next week. If The Shore wins versus DSU and Morgan State defeats Coppin State, the team will become the sixth seed. The sixth seed will give the team an extra day of rest before they have to play in the MEAC Tournament.
When DSU and Eastern Shore met earlier this season on February 9, the Hawks won 58-50. Senior Nathaniel Pollard, Jr. had 14 points to lead the team in scoring that night, while Myles Carter had 18 to lead the Hornets. Carter is the MEAC's top scorer this season at 16.7 points per game.
The game on Thursday will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. after the women's game between the Hawks and the Hornets. The bracket for the MEAC Tournament will come out this weekend as the team will play their first game of the conference tournament on either March 9 or 10.
