Hawks Humbled by Hoyas Homers

Shore Gives Up Nine Home Runs in 1-17 Loss

ROCKVILLE, Maryland – On a cold and rainy day the Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team had little working as they were taken yard nine times by Georgetown University, falling to the Hoyas on the road 1-17.

The Hawks dropped to 7-20 overall as they return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play on Friday (April 8) against Delaware State University.

In the first the Hoyas took a quick lead on back-to-back solo homers to start off the game, then in the second Ubaldo Lopez hit his second of the game with a two-run blast down the left field line. By the end of the third inning the Hawks trailed 5-0 on the road.

Georgetown was relentless in third fourth, knocking the Hawks around for nine runs and four runs in the inning to stretch the lead 14-0. In the fifth the Hoyas added another off a solo home run, their only run of the inning.

Jason Brown provided a piece of hope for the Shore in the top of the sixth, hitting his first collegiate home run to make it 15-1. The sophomore outfielder reared back on his first pitch and drove the ball over the high center fence situated 375 feet from home plate.

Keeping their foot on the gas, the Hoyas drove in two more runs after Brown's homer, one on Lopez's fourth home run of the game, a Georgetown record, in the sixth and then an RBI double in the eighth.

After the humbling experience at Georgetown, the Hawks get two days to rest and prepare to take on the Hornets in Dover, Delaware. In the first series between MEAC foes the teams split the series 2-2 in Salisbury, but the Hawks outscored the visitors 32-10 with the two loses coming by just a run a piece.
