Hawks Host Coppin State for Weekend Series

The Shore Looks to Improve Lead In MEAC Standings

PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — After falling in a midweek doubleheader to Cornell University, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team will look to get back to their winning ways this weekend (April 9-10) as they host conference Coppin State for three games.

The two teams will play one game on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. They will play a doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon to finish the series.

Prior to Cornell, the Hawks (12-21, 8-1 MEAC) had won 10 of their last 12 games. That stretch was the catalyst of the squad being in first place in the conference standings halfway through the MEAC season. Eastern Shore is currently two games ahead of a three-way tie for second place between N.C. Central, Morgan State and Norfolk State.

Maryland Eastern Shore is currently ranked first in team batting average in the MEAC. The sophomore duo of Tatum Kresley and Julia Garcia are the main reasons for that as they are first and second in the conference in batting average at .440 and .384 respectively.

Coppin State comes to Princess Anne this weekend looking for their first win of the season. Avianna Peterson is the team leader in batting average and runs scored.

Following this weekend's series, The Shore will be back in action on Tuesday (April 12) at Drexel for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
