HARAHAN, Louisiana - As the University of Maryland Eastern Shore bowling team prepares for the final day of the Colonial Lanes Classic, UMES comes into Sunday at 7-3 overall which included Saturday wins against Oklahoma Christian, North Carolina A&T and Alabama State.

"Today was a good test to see where we are as a program," UMES head coach Roger Petrin said. "We had some good moments and I think our best bowling remains ahead of us as we prepare for Sunday."

The Hawks, who are ranked twelfth in the nation, began Saturday with a come from behind win over OCU. Down by 30 pins entering the final frame, the Hawks went on to pull out the victory, 967-960. The Saturday docket continued to be challenging as the Hawks lost by just four pins, 916-912, to eighth ranked Sam Houston State.

"We showed great mental focus to come back against Oklahoma Christian which is a program that I think will eventually climb up in the national ranking," Petrin says. "We struggled to find consistency in our next two matches against two quality programs in Louisiana Tech and Sam Houston State. While we dropped those matches, it is an excellent experience for our ladies to go up against some of the top teams in the nation in order to access our strengths, weaknesses and where we need to improve."

"I thought we did a great job of regaining our mental edge while finding a balance of focus and comfort against NC A&T. We always have excellent matches against them and had a level of familiarity and friendliness playing against a fellow MEAC institution," said Petrin. "We ended the day strong. The focus now becomes going undefeated on Sunday and placing as high as we can."
