Hawks go 7-1 to open MEAC competition

Hawks open MEAC play with 7-1 record


BALTIMORE, Maryland - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks won seven matches and lost one during the opening MEAC competition of the season.


With the weekend's results, the Hawks are now 24-10 overall in addition to their 7-1 ledger in MEAC play which is the best MEAC start to a season for a UMES team since the 2019-2020 season.


Bowling at Woodlawn Lanes in Baltimore, Maryland, the Hawks opened the weekend action with a narrow 973-944 loss to fourth ranked North Carolina A&T before responding with seven straight victories to end the weekend on a high note. UMES ended Saturday with wins over Howard, Morgan State and Monmouth. The Hawks bowled a score of 854 to HU's 782 total. UMES combined for 904 pins to twenty-fifth ranked Morgan State's score of 793. Against Monmouth, the Hawks rolled their best score of the weekend in a 1003-948 result.


Facing event host Coppin State on Sunday morning, the Hawks grounded the Eagles with a score of 899-708. Twenty-third ranked Delaware State fell to UMES, 963-895. The Hawks beat UAB, 938-877 and ended the weekend with a 932-796 victory over Norfolk State.


The Hawks combined to knock down a pin total of 8294 with an average of 184.31 in 45 games over the two-day span.


Ranked twelfth in the nation, UMES will co-host next weekend's event with Monmouth at the Hawk Classic. Competition begins on Friday from Bowl America in Woodbridge, Virginia.
