UMES wins over NC A&T, Grambling and Oklahoma Christian highlight second day of Track Kat Klash


HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore bowling team won three matches and lost two in the second day of the Track Kat Klash.


In a day filled with ups and downs, the Hawks started Saturday on a positive note with 983-646 win over Grambling State University. The Hawks ran into a hot Sam Houston State team in the second match of the day. The event hosts and eighth ranked team in the nation bowled a score of 1,117 to the UMES score of 822.


In what may have been the best back-and-forth match of the day, the Hawks edged Oklahoma Christian with a score of 1,064 to 1,021. UMES maintained momentum against fourth ranked North Carolina A&T with a 905 to 869 win which marked the second win over the Aggies this season. 


In final match on Saturday, the Hawks tallied 911 pins and fell to a Lewis University score of 955.


Saturday's team results has the Hawks currently in seventh place heading into to Sunday's competition. As a team, the Hawks have knocked down 5,156 pins in baker-format play and 4,685 pins in traditional scoring for a combined total of 9,841 and an average of 196.8.


Brooke Roberts is currently in 14th place in the individual standings to lead the Hawks with 1,016 total pins and an averaged of 203.20 which included a score of 246 in her final game of the day.


Currently with an overall record of 16-7, the twelfth Hawks will open bracket play on Sunday against Oklahoma Christian.
