COLLEGE PARK, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore dropped their midweek matchup with the University of Maryland on Wednesday evening (March 29), falling 10-0 in five innings.
With the loss, the Hawks fell to 6-16 on the season. The Terrapins improved to 23-8 overall.
Maryland's bats clicked throughout the contest. The Terps plated five runs in the second, two in the third and the final three in the fifth to trigger the run-rule ending.
Ameenah Ballenger disrupted a potential no-hit bid, reaching first on a bunt single in the fifth. Morea Hodge came in to pinch run and moved up to second on a wild pitch, but Maryland staved off the Hawk bats to strand her there.
Maryland's Courtney Wyche (W, 10-4) surrendered the Hawks lone hit in four innings in the circle. Trinity Schlotterbeck also tossed an inning in relief for Maryland.
Ballenger (L, 4-7) allowed seven runs in her three innings of work, striking out two Terps. Katelyn Smitchko worked one inning in relief, allowing three runs.
The Hawks return to regularly scheduled conference action this weekend, hosting South Carolina State for a three-game series. All games will be played at Salisbury University, with first pitch of Saturday's doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
