SALISBURY, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team dropped its series finale against Morgan State by a 17-0 final on Sunday, April 16.
The Bears improved to 21-17 overall and 11-3 in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play, while UMES dropped to 12-20 on the year and 8-5 in league action.
Nola Mountain picked up a triple, while Jaycee Holt, McKenzie Abiley and Kiyaira Hicks picked up base hits in the loss. Ameenah Ballenger and Katelyn Smitchko each drew a free pass in the five-inning affair.
Morgan's Anaya Hunte (13-8) earned the win, pitching five shutout innings. Ballenger (7-10) was handed the loss, allowing eight earned runs over 4.2 innings of work.
Smitchko also worked in the third innings, picking up a pair of outs before Ballenger returned to the circle.
The Hawks return to action on Tuesday, April 18 when they head to Emmitsburg for a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. with game two beginning at approximately 4:30 p.m.
