WASHINGTON, D.
C. – It was a tough trip to the nation's capital for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team, falling to Georgetown University 3-13 in seven innings on Tuesday, May 9.
Brantley Cutler made a statement early for the Hawks, going yard to right center for his 46
th RBI and eighth home run of the season on the first pitch of his at bat in the top of the first.
Georgetown was quick to respond with a home run of their own in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff home run against starter
Raymond Smith Jr. to tie things up.
The Hawks kept the offense going in the top of the second when
Ryan Howe led off with a single and
Dillon Oxyer moved him over to second on a double. Facing two outs,
Riley Horner knocked a pitch to center field that was misplayed and turned into a two-run triple.
Smith was able to get the Hawks through the second before moving to the bullpen in the third. The Hoyas were able to take advantage of a one out walk by hitting their second home run of the game, once again tying the game up.
Big fifth and seventh innings for Georgetown of the five-run variety would cut the game short, sending the Hawks home with a 10-run rule loss.
Cutler and Oxyer each had two hits and a run in the loss, Horner led the way with two RBIs on his triple.
Joe Kelly and
Blake Rebstock combined for 2.2 scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen.
The Hawks get a few days of rest before heading to Easton, Massachusetts for a three-game Northeast Conference series with Stonehill College, with the first pitch coming at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12.
