Griggs propels Hawks to fifth straight win
STEPHENVILLE, Maryland - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks extended their winning streak with a four-set victory over the University of California Riverside on Saturday morning.
With the victory, UMES is now 7-4 overall while UC Riverside drops to 1-11 on the season.
UMESÂ took the first two sets with scores of 25-22 and 25-21. UC Riverside claimed the third frame, 25-17, before the Hawks closed the match with a 25-23 victory.
With two of the regular starters out for the Saturday morning match, UMES junior
Ranyla Griggs stepped up with a new collegiate career high 17 kills along with a .303 hitting percentage.
Soleil Cotton led the UMES block with a season-high six. Setters
Romina Vacca and
Anisa Dorlouis recorded 17 assists each.
Isil Yilmaz had a season-high 16 digs in the win.
As a team, UMES servers combined for a season-high 10 aces.
Winners of the last five matches, the Hawks will attempt to keep their winning ways going on Saturday night against Tarleton State to conclude the Dr. Pam Littleton Classic. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 pm cdt/7 pm est.
