Ftwi and Simms pace UMES runners in Soaring Hawk Invitational
PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland - With weather playing a factor in the rescheduled Soaring Hawk Invitational, runners from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Morgan State University completed competition on Sunday.
Top times for UMES included Nahom Ftwi's 28:05.9 pace for a third place finish in the men's 8k run. On the women's side,
Shenell Simms crossed the finish line in 23:04.3 for a fifth place finish.
" I am pleased with the men today, this was their first 8k of the season and three men ran personal best," said head coach
Sharlene Milwood-Lee. "We still have a bit of work to do but we are moving in the right direction."
In addition to Ftwi, Ridgeay and Ayers were among the Hawks who ran personal best times. Ridgeway was the second best Hawk runner on Sunday with a time of 28.20.4. Bryce Ayers ran the course in 28:28.6.
"Shenelle Simms ran a three minute personal best on the course today.," Milwood-Lee said. "Our women have more to give and we are not where we want to be right now. The goal is to find a way to finish the season with a better showing in the MEAC Championships and improving from last year's performance."

UMES is scheduled to travel to the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlander Invite on October 7.
