Jepngetich, Osunkwo Lead Hawks at UMES Open

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hosted the UMES Open on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Norfolk State, Delaware State and Morgan State. The women competed in the 3K, while the men ran a 5K.

UMES was led by 2024 All-MEAC selection Rebecca Jepngetich, who placed third in the women's 3K with a time of 16:47.23. Senior Shenell Simms followed closely, finishing in 16:56.17 after a tight race with a Delaware State runner.

On the men's side, sophomore Fidelis Osunkwo paced the Hawks with a personal-best time of 17:28.68 in the 5K.

Along with Jepngetich and Osunkwo, Simms and senior Destiny Emuze were the second-fastest Hawks in their respective races, clocking 16:56.17 and 18:16.10.
