HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Next up were the Commodores of #2 Vanderbilt. Despite a 267 in game four of five, the Hawks dropped the matchup 1110-1022, in the teams' third meeting this season.
  • It didn't get much easier as #4 Louisiana Tech was next. The Hawks claimed games one and four, but the final pin total was in favor of the Bulldogs, 1011-927.
  • UMES rebounded with a ranked win over #12 Tulane in the fourth matchup of the day. Not only did the Hawks claim each of the five games, but also the pin total by nearly 200 with a 1048-861 win over the Green Wave
  • The final dual of the day saw UMES take on #6 Arkansas St. The Hawks took games one and two by a combined three pins before the Red Wolves took games three and four in close competition. Game five saw UMES slip while ASU claimed the meeting, 1012-933.

SPARE THOUGHTS WITH COACH PETRIN

  • "We had an up and down day against tough competition. I thought we did some things really well but we know we have to be more consistent going into Saturday. We missed a lot of spare opportunities in our three losses, which most likely would have made the difference."
  • "I thought Gabby (Gabriella Ochoa Hubbard) was strong for us throughout the day. She has been good at staying focused and being consistent."
  • "The Northeast Classic is always a challenging event with a great field. We will regroup and get ready for Saturday."

UP NEXT

  • The Hawks be back on the lanes tomorrow, January 20 with traditional game matchups with against #23 Central Missouri, #15 Mount St. Mary's, #21 McKendree, Adelphi, and #10 Maryville.
