SUMMARY
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks (9-11, 4-5 MEAC) fell to the Coppin State Eagles (11-14, 7-2) in straight sets on Sunday, Oct. 27.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the Hawks' attempt to even the season series with Coppin State, the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first set. However, a service error and two attack errors gave the Hawks a 3-2 edge. Anjola Omolewa added a kill to tie the match at 4-4.
The Hawks overcame Coppin State's largest lead of the set, 11-7, and took their first lead at 14-12, fueled by back-to-back kills from Nkemjika Ikemefuna. The Eagles later tied the set at 19-19 following a net interference challenge. In the closing moments, errors by the Hawks allowed the Eagles to secure the first set, 25-20.

Coppin State carried that momentum into the second set, jumping to a 6-0 lead. The Hawks halted the run with a kill by Ranyla Griggs, set up by Anisa Dorlouis. Maryland Eastern Shore responded with a 3-0 run, cutting the deficit to three, aided by another kill from Ikemefuna and an Eagles attack error. Despite reducing the gap to six at the halfway point, 13-7, additional errors by the Hawks helped Coppin State take a commanding 2-0 lead.

Although the Hawks have an 11-2 record in five-set matches, they couldn't extend this one. In the third set, Ikemefuna—who finished with 10 kills—made an early impact to help the Hawks take a 7-5 lead. However, Coppin State excelled in sideout percentage (.387 to .083) down the stretch, closing out the final set 25-15 to complete the sweep.

THE NUMBERS

• Ikemefuna recorded her sixth match with double-digit kills.
• Dorlouis led the team with 18 assists and nine digs.
• Shanti Ramdeen and Alivia Proctor contributed defensively, finishing with six and seven digs, respectively—just one shy of their season highs.
