HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks edged the Eagles in the opening set despite trailing in kills 14-13. UMES pulled away with a 4-0 run, extending their lead to 17-11 behind kills by
Ranyla Griggs and
Anjola Omolewa,
Isil Yilmaz's service ace and Eagles errors.
The Hawks hit a match-high .324 in the second set, building an early 5-1 lead. Though NCCU tied the score, UMES regained control behind
Nkemjika Ikemefuna and
Rayah Howell.
NCCU took the third set with 16 kills and forced eight Hawks errors, closing on a Karmen Harper-led 3-0 run. In the final set, UMES overcame offensive struggles by capitalizing on eight Eagles errors to secure the victory, 27-25, Â in the fourth set.
