A layup by Simpson late in the first half cut the Hawk lead down to five before a spinning layin by Ketron "KC" Shaw put UMES up 40-33 at the break.

A motivated Hawks team came out in the second half upped their lead to sixteen, 57-41 after a layin and dunk from Chris Flippin. Up by a healthy margin at the 15:24 mark, the Hawks maintained a double-digit cushion through the remainder of the game. Five straight point by Flippin late in the game gave the Hawks their largest lead, 79-58, with a minute to play and they cruised to the 17-point victory.

COMMENTS FROM COACH CLEO HILL, JR

"We wanted to play solid defense. I thought our guards did that tonight and we showed signs of improvement."

"Evan (Johnson) and KC (Shaw) continue to be solid. I thought we did a good job of getting the ball to Chris Flippin. Moving forward, we look to get more consistency from other guys as we prepare for a tough game against Maryland followed by MEAC play."

"It has been a challenging semester both on and off the court for our guys and I want them to take a little bit of time over the next few days to be with their family before we get back to work. With an entirely new team, we continue to learn and get better. We will come back from this short break refreshed and reenergized for the second half of the season."
