Hawks fall in Sunday series finale to Merrimack

SUMMARY

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks fell in Sunday' series finale at Merrimack, 9-1.

SUMMARY

Merrimack continued its dominance in the series sweep by scoring the first nine runs of Sunday's contest. Dawson Bryce opened the MC scoring with a solo home run in the first inning and an RBI single in ther second inning by Matthew Chatelle put MC up 2-0. 

Three more runs were scored by Merrimack in the fifth inning on a Braydon Dolbashian triple and a Chatelle double. After an error by the Hawks allowed two more runs to score in the sixth inning, Bryce knocked another home run to add two more runs to the margin. 

The only Hawk run came in the seventh inning as Michael Blackiston made it to home plate on a wild pitch.



THE NUMBERS


UMES offense combined for a total of five hits on the day while stranding seven men on base

MC totalled eight hits in the game which included six extra base hits


UMES pitchers combined to give up seven runs along with six walks with starter Brandon Poole recording the loss with 4.2 innings pitched while surrendering five earned runs.


COMMENTS FROM COACH DANNY ACOSTA

"We struggled throughout the entire series. I thought we were a little to hesitant today from the plate and we could have been a little more aggressive in certain situations to generate runs."


"There were some positive moments from our pitching staff today but we continue to look for more consistency in all phases of the game."


"We will use the early part of this week to get some much needed rest before traveling to Navy on Wednesday."


UP NEXT

The Hawks will travel to Annapolis, Maryland to play at Nacy on Wednesday with Lee Byrd scheduled to get the start on the mound for UMES.
