SUMMARY
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks lost to Coppin State on walk-off single to fall 8-7 on Friday.
THE SCORE
University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks - 7
Coppin State University Eagles - 8
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks seized the early momentum by scoring the game's first four runs. Catcher
Doyle McNew doubled in the first inning to drive in teammate
Bronson Taylor.
Isaiah Beseris crossed homeplate later in the inning on a fielder's choice. Outfielder
Jason Brown doubled in the third inning to drive in
Ulysses Luciano and
Derek Blackmore.Â
The Eagles cut the deficit to 4-3 with a three-run third. Damon Gaither started the rally with a one-out single before Samuel Nieves was hit by a pitch. A two-out RBI single by Daniel Moore, along with an error on the center fielder, scored a pair of runs, and Moore came around to score on a single to center field by Angel Colon.
The Hawks added a run in the top of the fourth inning on a single from McNew. In the bottom of the inning, a double by Anthony Divittorio and a single by Gaither sparked a two-run inning to tied the game, 5-5.
CSU grabbed the lead in the sixth inning on a Colon single to go up 6-5. UMES evened the score in the eighth inning on a Beseris single and took a 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth thanks to a walk with the bases loaded.
After walking the leadoff hitter and allowing a double, a flyout by Divottorio brought home the game-tying run. The Hawks elected to intentionally walk the next two batters to load the bases, setting up a force at any base, but Nieves lined a shot to center field to drive in the winning run.
