Hawks drop first two games of series to Lemoyne

GAME 1 | SUMMARY
 
The LeMoyne Dolphins pulled away from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks in the late stages of the opening game of the series on Friday with a 8-4 victory.

GAME 1 | HOW IT HAPPENED
Hawk starter Raymond Smith and Dolphin starter Jacob Crystal kept the game scoreless through the first three innings. A Brady Fureno single to lead off the fourth inning eventually resulted in a score after a fielding error allowed the first Dolphin run to score. With runners on second and third base, Smith recovered with a strikeout followed by the Hawk defense converting a double play to escape the inning by allowing just one run.
 
LeMoyne came back in the fifth inning by putting the first two batters on base. An off target pick off attempt by Smith allowed the runners to advance. The Dolphins added to their lead on a sacrifice fly in the next at bat and a wild pitch brought in the third LeMoyne run.
 
Fureno added to the LeMoyne lead in the seventh inning with a two-run homerun.
 
LeMoyne went up by eight runs in the bottom of eighth inning with a three-run homerun by Dewey Roden.
 
Down 8-0, UMES cut the deficit down to four runs in the ninth inning. Ulysses Luciano was able to get the Hawks in the scoring column with a two-run homerun. With two runners on base, Danny Sadler, Jr. doubled down the right field line to drive in two more runs before relief pitcher Billy Hoffacker managed to get the final two outs of the contest and the win for LeMoyne.
 

 
GAME 1 | BY THE NUMBERS
 
Raymond Smith pitched 4.1 innings for the Hawks while surrendering two earned runs. Jacob Crystal went eight innings for LeMoyne giving up two hits and two runs.
 
Ulysses Luciano recorded his second homerun of the year.
 
Danny Sadler, Jr. went 2-for-4 from the plate to lead the UMES batters.
 
Dewey Roden went 3-for-3 for LeMoyne along with four RBIs.

With pitching at a premium, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks were unable to keep pace with the LeMoyne Dolphins in a 20-8 loss in the second game of Friday's double header

GAME 2 | HOW IT HAPPENED

LeMoyne took advantage of a limited Hawk bullpen in the second game of Friday's double-header by way of the long ball. The Dolphin hitters combined for eight home runs to tie a school record. LeMoyne hit two solo shots in the first inning.The Dolphins also went yard in the second, third and fourth innings to jump out to a 12-0 lead. The largest deficit for the Hawks was 18-1 before six run eight inning highlighted by a Jason Brown homerun brought the score to 18-7. LeMoyne hit one more homerun in the bottom of the inning to go up 20-7 before the Hawks scored the game's final run on a wild pitch.


GAME 2 | BY THE NUMBERS

The Hawks used five pitchers in the game including two positional players.

LeMoyne starting pitcher Max Parker went seven innings while while surrendering three hits and one earned run.

UMES outfielder Jason Brown connected for his first homerun of the season.

Nick Nevins led the LeMoyne offense with a 4-for-5 performance from the plate.
